Historical Jazz Recording

Artist: Caity Gyorgy

Michael’s specific speciality is historical jazz recording. He believes that the best recordings are made when all the musicians are in the same room, making music at the same time. He avoids isolation and click tracks if possible, and embraces the bleed of other instruments as well as the sound of the room. This style of recording lends itself to a more musical result and almost as importantly, a more enjoyable way to make music.

This example is taken from field test recordings comparing a full array of modern techniques side-by-side with historical techniques. No effects have been added to the historical recording, with an entirely different set of microphones.

This recording was a 2024 AES Student Competition Silver Medalist.
